World Cup winner Paolo Rossi believes Carlo Ancelotti should be the next Italy CT – “he’s good and capable, not least in his relations with the players”.

The Azzurri are currently without a Coach, as Giampiero Ventura was sacked after the failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

Luigi Di Biagio is in caretaker charge, and he takes on Argentina in a friendly in Manchester tonight.

“The Federations is looking at expert coaching profiles,” Rossi, top-scorer in the 1982 World Cup triumph, told RMC Sport.

“We have a lot of Coaches with charisma and personality. If I were the President [of the FIGC] right now I’d go for Ancelotti.

“He’d good and capable, not least in his relations with the players. He’s the right figure for the national team.”

Mario Balotelli was left out by Di Biagio, and Rossi was also asked for his opinion on that.

“I’d have made the same choice as Di Biagio, but I wouldn’t close the doors for good. In the future he could come back, we shouldn’t close the doors of the national team.”
