Cristiano Ronaldo has rocked the boat at Manchester United after deciding to push for a move away this summer, mirroring the way he left Juventus last year.

The Portuguese star did not turn up for the Red Devils’ pre-season preparations today, informing them that personal matters were keeping him away. It’s been widely reported that he asked the club for a move away this summer, clearly wanting Champions League football as he enters the final years of his career.

Ronaldo’s behaviour is clearly in character, being similar to the way he acted before his Juventus departure last summer. The Portuguese star started the Serie A season with the Bianconeri, playing 30 minutes of a 2-2 draw with Udinese, and the club’s management were confident that he would stay.

Less than 10 days later, he was in the North West of England. Again, Ronaldo has decided to wait before making his intentions clear, forcing Manchester United to adapt their plans now, weeks into the summer transfer window. Juventus were unable to replace him due to the lateness of his communication, but the Red Devils do still have a chance to scramble together a replacement.

Many observers suggest that Champions League football is what’s most important to Ronaldo, and if that’s the case then he’s had months to tell Manchester United, a club where he’s beloved, his plans.

10 thought on “Ronaldo’s Manchester United situation mirrors Juventus departure”
  1. Me, me, me with this guy. No team ethic and acts like a petulant kid despite approaching 40🙄. Needs to take a leaf from Ibra’s book and show some leadership.

  2. allegri said it best. Ronaldo likes to be in pampered situations. when things get tough he wants to get away. i respect the 100 goals he scored for juve; but was very happy when man utd came in and bought him.

  3. What like PhD Max is not pampered. Plays for 0-0, people fall asleep after 1 minute, total back, back, down, down and the fans have to pay more money for tickets.

  4. first time i agree with you, we should get italiano or tudor, nothing to lose anyway and they are cheap options too

  5. LOL @Lord Allegri a bit of whataboutism here but agree. Allegri is set in his ways, acts like a petulant kid himself with all the hissy fits on the touchline, full of smugness and complacency, not in line with the examples set by legendary coaches like Lippi. It’s just a grin and bear situation for the sake of continuity for the coming season otherwise the club must not hesitate to cut its losses.
@Milan Ric Agreed. Although I’m not a big fan of Ibra, his colossal ego for one, his motivation and leadership style clearly works for some youngsters. Ronaldo’s leadership of the Portugal squad in 2016 was immense. Wish we’d seen that consistently when he was at Juve.

  6. Ronaldo is too good for clubs as Juve and Man United at the moment these two clubs are a joke the way the were run last years….

  7. Awww Cristina is throwing his toys out of the pram again? I wonder where the Portuguese eyebrow plucking crybaby is off to next.

  8. LOL @Lord…on quite a few posts you were saying Ronaldo had seen sense and saved himself by leaving Juve… Only to end up worse off at Man Utd. Agree with some comments about Allegri but be consistent. Not sure Allegri is pampered when he was fired by Juve before bringing in Sarri. Juve management have been really poor in the last 5 or so years and those decisions have set us back.

  9. Just as I said when he left Juventus, this man is poisonous to teams, I knew Manchester would go down with him there. Now who wants him to bring their club down? He should go to the MLS and become a side show.

  10. Any team who takes him are a witless bunch of shirt sellers. He stinks now. Overjoyed when Juve sold him!
