Man Utd agreed to pay Cristiano Ronaldo a reported €654,000 a week when signing him from Juventus in August – how does that compare with the top earners in Serie A?

The Portuguese star left Turin in the summer after scoring 101 goals in 134 appearances with the Bianconeri between 2018 and 2021.

Ronaldo has almost single-handedly increased the wage bill at Old Trafford by over 20 per cent.

The former Real Madrid star was Juventus and Serie A’s highest earner with a €31m-a-year salary.

His former teammate Matthijs de Ligt is now the best-played player in Turin and the rest of Italy.

The Dutchman signed an €8m-a-year deal with the Bianconeri in 2018, but his salary could raise to €12m-a-year with add-ons.

Paulo Dybala will soon join him on top of Serie A’s best-paid players signing a new €8m-a-year deal with €2m add-ons.

Dybala is currently the third-highest earner in Serie A with a €7.3m-a-year salary, behind Christian Eriksen, who gets €7.5m.

The Inter star is out of action as he is not allowed to play in Serie A with a heart starter, which he had implanted after suffering a heart attack during Denmark-Finland at the Euros last summer. Inter are covering his salary through FIFA insurance.

Aaron Ramsey, Adrien Rabiot, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Arturo Vidal all get €7m-a-year, followed by Wojciech Szczęsny and Leonardo Bonucci (€6.5m-a-year) and Lautaro Martinez, who has recently signed a new €6m-a-year contract with Inter.

  1. Juve acting like a premier League club.

With sir chesny, Ramsey, rabiot and bonnici out that’s a 24m saving

You could have paid dollumra his 10m, had a central defence of de ligt, demiral and Romero

You could offer and possibly entice de Jong, with 10m and the monaco guy for 4m

Get rid of morato and Kean and the savings there can get you vlahovic. (Who I think is good but not great)

  2. I was watching an old gazetta show on YouTube.

Baggio left juve to go Milan as juve found his £800,000 ANNUAL salary too expensive

  3. I look at this list and I want to puke. Good luck trying to off-load the dead weight, as per usual.

Grande Marotta, Paratici, Nedved & Agnelli…. And you wonder where the grinta went…

  4. I would cash in on De Ligt as well. He is very good defender but I think we lose perspective with young players and assume they are all going to be the next superstar. In the 3 years he has been with us I actually do not see the progress made to justify that price tag. His stock is high and if we were to sell to Chelsea, we could reinvest that money in multiple areas across the squad.

  5. @Jon Unfortunately the players you’ve mentioned still have more than a year left on their contracts. Other than Rabiot, due to his age, it’s highly unlikely anyone would be willing to pay a transfer fee for these players, which means they would likely have to be paid off close to if not all of their wages to leave the club.
