Portugal are also starting to follow Spain’s lead by banning flights to and from Italy, but it may well be too late to stop the rapid spread of the respiratory illness throughout Europe.

Most Serie A clubs have suspended training for at least seven days, but Juventus are continuing to work ahead of their planned Champions League tie with Olympique Lyonnais.

That is at the current time meant to be played behind closed doors, but there are growing reports it could be postponed along with Barcelona-Napoli.

There have been another 196 deaths in Italy from Coronavirus over the last 24 hours alone, taking the total to 827.
