Ronaldo misses Brazil World Cup opener after COVID diagnosis

Serie A legend Ronaldo will not be attending Brazil’s opening 2022 World Cup game against Serbia today, as he has tested positive for COVID-19.

The former Inter and Milan striker was already in Qatar for the tournament and was going to be in the stadium for their first match this evening.

According to O Globo, Ronaldo is suffering from flu-like symptoms and tested positive for COVID-19.

He is self-isolating in his hotel in Qatar and this is the second time that Ronaldo has contracted the virus after January 2022.

Ronaldo was the Golden Boot winner at the 2022 World Cup, leading Brazil to their fifth victory in Japan and South Korea.

He was also part of the 1994 World Cup winning squad, which beat Italy in the Final on a penalty shoot-out.

Now 46, Ronaldo invested his money in purchasing both Spanish side Real Valladolid and Brazilian club Cruzeiro, which is where he started his career.
