Former Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo returns to Italy when Manchester United play Atalanta in Bergamo on Tuesday. ‘An amazing place that will be forever in my heart’.

The Portuguese superstar prepares for the fourth round of fixtures in the European cup, where he can add to his incredible tally of 137 goals in 179 games.

He has scored 60 times in 88 away games and is back on the road when Atalanta host the Red Devils at the Gewiss Stadium.

Ronaldo left Juventus at the end of August and the Bianconeri rued the short time left to replace the goalscorer, but the Portugal captain looks forward to his return to Italy.

Gian Piero Gasperini said he misses the striker in Serie A and Ronaldo admitted he will forever be grateful to Italy.

“Back to Italy,” Ronaldo wrote on Instagram. “A country that welcomed me and my family so well, an amazing place that will be forever in my heart.

“I know from experience that it’s never easy to play in Bergamo against a team such as Atalanta, but we will do our absolute best to keep the first place in our group.

“This is Champions League and we are Manchester United! We are where we belong! Let’s go, Devils!”

  1. How hypocritic. If Italy is in your heart, than you wouldn’t behave the way you did a few days before the transfer window closed. Money, that is what you loved in Italy.

  2. I’m not a Ronaldo fan but I can confidently say he is the best soccer player I’ve seen since Zidane. From a player who could destroy you with his dribbling and creativity but now has transitioned into the ultimate goal poacher.

I’m this case he is full of it. If Italy was in his heart he would have attempted to learn Italian

  3. He left italy because allegri showed no class towards him. As we say in Canada bye bye juventus.

  4. @Ros its allegri fault. like patrice evra said allegri went to pers and said he wont start Ronaldo every match and he need to prove himself to him to let him start the game. Evra said that unnecessary to said to media, and if allegri has that intention he should keep private and on dressing room. its like what mourinho did on roma, embarrassing his own players in front of media never be good choice.
that why he left juventus, on another universe allegri didnt say any of that, he would have stayed on juve this season.

  5. @Fabio Paratici. I’m glad CR7 left. We need to move on and get into that transition between generations. Possibly we would have Haaland and Donnaruma if only we wouldn’t sign CR7. His salary was a huge burden. Allegri left Juve because of CR7 and Paratici (hahaha, deja vu). He and Marotta wanted young players. Paratici and Nedved were keen on CR7 and Suarez. Suarez transfer failed miserably, CR7 got the 31M/year salary that blocked flexibility on the transfer market. Once Allegri came back it was clear that CR7 will leave. He could have joined PSG or MU early summer. But he did it end of the transfer window. Juventus had to move quick and grab whatever is left on the transfer market. That’s how we got stuck with Kean.

  6. @StefanO. Exactly. Now he’s showing crocodile tears and how he misses Italy. Not speaking Italian in an Italian team is quite respectless. So I fully agree with Allegri. He had to restore order in the locker room and CR7 was an issue (what Chiellini and Bonucci admitted)

  7. I am amazed he has any room left in his heart to love anything else. What a pity, probably the Worlds best footballer, lacks a personable personality.

  8. @Ros. He didn’t say Juventus is in his heart. He said Italy. He’s referring to the Italian people, the culture and the many beautiful things about the country. It’s telling that he didn’t mention Juve. I’m sure he has affection for Juventus fans, but as for the rest; the management, Allegri, some of his former teammates, I’m not so sure.

I agree with you about him not speaking Italian. When you consider how much money he was earning that’s quite an indictment on his character and professionalism. His defenders will counter with his goal record; to that I would say if he knew the language he would have been in better synch with his teammates – on and off the pitch – and the team, as a whole, could have performed a lot better as a unit.

  9. Stefano, not tying to rude but here it is Ronaldo is a fantastic goal scorer but he cant even tie Zidane shoes. Zinedine was a far far superior talent! He carried that French to team for years!

  10. Watch what Zidane did against the maybe the most talented Brazilian team ever. They were so impressed they were simply in awe of him after the match. The best Juventus ever had was Zidane…The best France has ever had….and he pulled the string at Real too! No comparison in my humble opinion….

  11. LMAO – Sooo because CR7 didn’t speak Italian made him disrespectful OMG that sounds ridiculous Listen Italian soccer fans or Juve fan which ever, just be happy and grateful that he stayed in Italy as long as he did, and did wonder’s for Juve! He is and will be till Portugal puts out another the best player in the world. Anyone that know the game will tell you so. CR7 and family are not really interested in what media has to say. Cristiano always speaks, and answers on the pitch. We Portuguese are so proud of him, and give him in when he deserves it lol! but the beauty of our National Team is we can win without him. Forca Cristiano semipro!!!!!!!
