The Bianconeri star is one of the protagonists in a documentary on DAZN called ‘Parallel worlds’, where he is being compared to the Russian boxer Gennady Golovkin.

“When I was at Manchester United, a coach was boxing with me,” he told DAZN. “I think practicing it can be good for a footballer because it sharpens your senses, and you learn to move.

“Boxing is more difficult because when you compete, you are alone. I don’t think I could have been a boxer, it’s tough.

“Playing football is my passion, but I watch other sports on TV. Between a football match or a boxing of UFC match, I choose the second option.”

The 35-year-old Portuguese superstar said the truth to his longevity in football lies in ‘the head, and his motivation to not slow down’.

“At 33, you start thinking that you are going downhill, but I want to continue playing football,” he said. “People might think: ‘Cristiano was an incredible player but now he is slow’.

“I don’t want that to happen. You can take care of your body but that’s not the problem. It depends on your head, your motivation and experience.

“Federer, for example, is 39 years old and still at the top.”
