Real Madrid will let Cristiano Ronaldo join Juventus for €100m, but only if he publicly declares it is his decision to move on, according to reports.

The so-called €100m clause is actually a gentlemen’s agreement signed in January and not legally binding, so would still require the all-clear from President Florentino Perez.

Marca, Cadena Cope and Sky Sport Italia are among the sources suggesting Real Madrid want to be clear of blame for the exit of the Ballon d’Or winner.

This means CR7 would have to hold a press conference in which he declares his desire to move on after nine years for a new challenge at Juventus.

That would effectively replicate the comments made by agent Jorge Mendes to Record this evening.

It’d also enable Real Madrid to publicly thank the Portugal international and not repeat the disappointing departure of Iker Casillas, which many believed was disrespectful.

Friday's front page story on Marca claims Ronaldo has "given his word" to Juventus President Andrea Agnelli, but they need Perez to accept the €100m agreement, as it is not legally binding.
