Ronaldo is one of the competition’s most successful players, winning it five times with Manchester United and Real Madrid.

However, Juve have not lifted the European Cup since 1996, going on to lose their last five Finals.

“The draw is difficult, but it always is,” Ronaldo told Sky Sport Italia after the Old Lady were paired with Atletico Madrid, Lokomotiv Moscow and Bayer Leverkusen in the 2019-20 group stage.

“I have great faith in my team and I can’t wait to play in this beautiful edition of the Champions League.

“The start of the season is always tough. We have a new system, a new Coach and new players.

“We won the first game and we’re growing step by step. So many teams can win the Champions League and it’s always tough, but I’m positive and confident.

“We’ll do very well this season.”

The No 7 added to Spanish TV after the draw: “What side hasn't strengthened this year? Everyone strengthens in order to win.

“Hopefully Juventus will win this year but it's the hardest competition there is to win. The favourite doesn't always win.

“Look at Barcelona letting in four at Anfield. Everyone thought we would beat Ajax and we didn't.

“The same happened to Madrid. It's a competition that's very tough to win. I'm really up for it and hopefully it’ll be our year.”
