Cristiano Ronaldo finished 2021 as Juventus’ top scorer of the year, despite leaving the club in the summer.

The 36-year-old Portuguese star left Turin for Manchester United in the summer transfer window, but still closed out the year as the club’s top scorer, highlighting their issues finding the back of the net this campaign under coach Massimiliano Allegri.

As highlighted by ESPN, Argentinian star Lionel Messi ended 2021 in a similar position; he finished the year as Barcelona’s top scorer, despite leaving on a free transfer in June. Both sides have clearly suffered without their stars, who have won 12 Ballon d’Or awards between them.

Ronaldo scored 20 goals for the Bianconeri across all competitions this year, remaining as clinical as ever, despite turning 36 this year. He has remained equally as decisive in England, scoring 13 goals in 18 games for Manchester United.

Messi, on the other hand, has struggled to adapt to life in France, only scoring once in Ligue 1 this campaign, although he has scored five goals in five Champions League matches.

  1. cr7 is irreplaceable but life goes on – I wish him all the best and hope Juve get Dyblaa and Chiesa back to pick up the slack in the goals department
