Ronaldinho believes that this is the year that Milan will break their Scudetto drought and feels the World Cup ‘loses a lot’ without Italy.

The Rossoneri currently sit top of the Serie A table after 30 games with 66 points, three ahead of second place Napoli and six ahead of third place Inter, who have a game in hand. They have the chance to break a decade-long Scudetto drought this campaign but they’ll need to stay focused in the final weeks of the season.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ronaldinho first discussed if this was the season that Milan could break their long wait for a league title.

“I think so, maybe we’ll wait until it’s mathematically confirmed to say it. What is certain is that I am still a big Milan fan and I always follow the Italian league with attention. But I think it could be the right year for Milan.”

He spoke about how the Milan team that he played in and if comparisons could be drawn with this team.

“It’s true, the Milan where I played had a lot of great players, but there are some in this one too. What prevails today, however, is the team concept, which is enhanced by a great tactical organisation. That’s why, as we did then, they do a great job.”

The former Brazil international gave his thoughts on veteran forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“Zlatan is a great friend of mine, but despite being 40 years old he is doing well and doing well at Milan. Winning another Scudetto at his age would be great for him and for the club.”

Ronaldinho commented on Italy’s failure to qualify for the World Cup.

“Without Italy the World Cup loses a lot. For those who love football like I do, and for the spectacle, it’s a real shame that the Azzurri won’t be there.

“I would never have imagined seeing another World Cup without Italy.”

He was not concerned about the fact that no Italian team qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the second consecutive year.

“For me Italian football is still beautiful. Maybe there are no longer the great stars of the past, but it is a very competitive league, with tactically very strong and prepared teams.”

Finally, Ronaldinho revealed which player he’s a big fan of watching.

“There are many, but if I had to choose one I would say Messi. When he is on the pitch you can be sure that something good always happens.”
