Ex-Milan star Ronaldinho has been released from prison in Paraguay but will remain under house arrest after posting almost €750,000 in bail.

Ronaldinho and his brother Roberto were jailed last month for entering the South American country with a fake passport.

However, it was reported this afternoon that courts accepted a bail payment of $1.6m (€1.47m) from the pair.

A bail payment is essentially a guarantee that a suspect will attend their trial.

They will be forced to stay in a four-star hotel, in the Paraguayan city of Asuncion, while awaiting trial.

The 40-year-old and Roberto, who also acts as his agent, had travelled to Paraguay to promote a book and campaign for underprivileged children.
