“Ronaldinho is 99 per cent a Flamengo player,” said Milan chief Adriano Galliani, all but putting an end to Gremio's dreams.

The legend claimed he only wanted to return to the club where he started his career in Porto Alegre, but Gremio failed to reach a financial agreement with the Rossoneri.

Palmeiras and Corinthians had also made offers to bring Dinho back to his homeland after six months spent mainly on the Milan bench.

It is another surprise twist in the tale, as Galliani had stated overnight that Gremio had “closed the gap” from Flamengo with their financial package.

However, the latest reports would suggest Flamengo have won out with their proposal of €3m.

“There are still a few details to sort out in the contract, but negotiations are relaxed now. The most important thing is that Milan and Flamengo reached a deal. Now we must speak to the player.”
