Tottenham are in talks with Atalanta to sign Cristian Romero, but according to several reports, there are no agreements in place yet.

The Argentinean defender joined La Dea from Juventus on loan with an option to buy in 2020 and has emerged as one of Spurs targets to strengthen their defensive department.

Paratici brought Romero to Juventus from Genoa in the summer of 2020 and sold him to Atalanta shortly after to keep the Bianconeri’s books balanced. Now he wants to reunite with the Argentinean centre-back.

However, according to Sky Sport Italia and The Athletic, there is no agreement over the player’s transfer fee, meaning talks between the North London club and Atalanta are still ongoing.

According to Sportitalia, Tottenham could offer Davinson Sanchez as part of the deal.

Atalanta’s CEO Gianluca Percassi has confirmed the two clubs are in talks for the Argentinean centre-back.

“Romero is one of the best defenders in Serie A and it’s normal that many clubs are interested in signing him. Atalanta gave him the opportunity to develop and play Champions League football,” he said after the unveiling of Atalanta’s kits for 2021-22.

“Let’s see what happens, if we are to sell players, we must do it in a smart way and offers must match the players’ value.”

On the other hand, Spurs are close to securing the services of Romero’s teammate Pierluigi Gollini on loan with an option to buy.

The North London club remain interested in Bologna‘s Takehiro Tomiyasu, but the Rossoblu have warned Tottenham they are in no rush to sell the 22-year-old.
