Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero said Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini was ‘the best coach I have had in my career’.

Romero moved to Spurs this summer after only one year with La Dea, but Gasperini has impacted the Argentine.

The former Juventus centre-back explained the coach at the Gewiss Stadium is the reason why Atalanta have ‘improved’ in recent years.

“It was Gasperini who helped me grow,” Romero told AS. “I think he was the best coach I have had in my career.

“I improved a lot with him, I thank him for everything. When I learned that Atalanta were looking for me, I didn’t hesitate to move to Bergamo.”

Atalanta finished third in Serie A last campaign and secured their third consecutive qualification for the Champions League and Romero believes it’s all thanks to Gasperini.

“He’s a coach who, if he sees that you want to grow and improve, he will stay with you until death. It’s been like that since the first day I arrived,” Romero continued.

“He’s a great coach and he is showing it in a club that wasn’t, but that has improved thanks to him.”
