Atalanta defender Cristian Romero hopes to win the first trophy of his career this season and reveals he turned down an offer from Fiorentina in the summer.
The Argentinean joined Atalanta from Juventus on loan with an option to buy last summer, but he could have joined Fiorentina who are also La Dea’s next opponent in Serie A.
“My agent spoke to La Viola and I know there were many clubs interested in signing me. However, Atalanta was my priority, not only because they play the Champions League.

“Gasperini is a coach with whom I can improve. It’s the best choice I could make.”
Atalanta are in the race to qualify for the Champions League for the third season in a row.
“We are going through a good moment, but the target is still far away, we need to fight if we want to achieve it. It’s not an easy task, but we want to finish among the top four,” the defender added.
Did he hope he could stay at Juventus?
“I thank them because they signed me from Genoa, but I am happy at Atalanta. I am focused on the last nine games of the season and the Coppa Italia Final against Juve.
“I’ve already played against them, it will be my first final as a professional footballer and I hope to win it.”
