La Dea wasted so many chances in the midweek 1-1 draw with Roma, but didn’t make the same mistake again, blowing Bologna out of the water 5-0.

It was already 2-0 and looking comfortable before Jerdy Schouten saw red at the dawn of the second half for a studs-up tackle on Romero’s knee and Atalanta go into second place, awaiting Milan’s trip to Lazio.

Bologna started well and I remember they had two good chances, but we had a great game overall and must continue like this,” the defender told Sky Sport Italia.

“There are five games left and if we play like this, we will certainly achieve our objective. Our target is to qualify for the Champions League, then obviously second would be nice, but that’s not the main issue.”

Romero joined Atalanta on loan from Juventus with an option to buy and has zero regrets.

“I’ve always said Gasperini is a great coach who is helping me grow so much. It was the best choice to come here and join Atalanta, I knew many players who loved it here and I listen to all his advice. I know there are many areas where I still need to improve.

“My agent is talking to the club. I am concentrated on the remaining games and then we’ll see.”
