Gossip columnist Fabrizio Corona has publicly named Roma full back Nicola Zalewski as the fourth player implicated in the growing Serie A betting scandal.

Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli was first accused of illegal betting by Corona in a report back in August and he admitted to it when speaking to investigators in Turin yesterday, handing over his phone to police.

Sandro Tonali and Nicolo Zaniolo were the next two players to be implicated in the scandal. Police questioned the pair at Coverciano last night and both players withdrew from the Italy squad ahead of the Euro 2024 qualifier against Malta.

They reportedly admitted to betting on illegal platforms, but claimed that they were playing blackjack and poker, not betting on football matches.

As announced by Corona today, Zalewski is the fourth player involved in the Serie A betting scandal.

A product of Roma’s youth system, he spent two years as a teammate of Zaniolo in the Giallorossi first team.

Zalewski has made 79 appearances for Roma since breaking into Mourinho’s squad in 2021, scoring two goals and providing four assists.
