Roma have rejected a mega offer from Newcastle for captain Lorenzo Pellegrini, according to reports in Italy.

The Italy international has continued his excellent 2021-22 campaign with some stellar performances for the Azzurri in the Nations League.

Il Corriere dello Sport claim Newcastle’s €60 million offer was immediately turned down and it was made clear to the Premier League side there would be no discussion.

The report adds that Pellegrini has made the decision to reject any interest from elsewhere as his plan is to stay with the Giallorossi for life.

According to the report, Newcastle are one of a number of clubs to have registered interest in the 26-year-old but there is no chance of him leaving.

Roman-born Pellegrini is considered a symbol of the club by the Friedkin ownership group, and follows in the path of Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi in captaining his hometown club.

Pellegrini started his career at Roma but moved to Sassuolo for two seasons before the Giallorossi exercised a buy-back clause in 2017.
