Mile Svilar was Roma‘s Man Of The Match in a 3-0 win over Frosinone, so a new era between the Giallorossi sticks could begin.

Portuguese keeper Rui Patricio had been criticised by fans and media after conceding 28 goals in 24 matches and keeping just six clean sheets this term. Nevertheless, it was pretty surprising to see Daniele De Rossi start Svilar in an away win at Frosinone on Sunday.

The ex-Benfica keeper played his cards right at the Stadio Stirpe, producing crucial saves on Matias Soulé and Kaio Jorge in the first half.

The 24-year-old was the MOTM for the Giallorossi for Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport.

All three Italian sports papers rated the Serbia international 7/10. The pink paper wrote that Svilar was ‘decisive’ in Roma’s victory.

Svilar had never begun a Serie A game under De Rossi but was the starting goalkeeper in Europa League matches. Now that he put in a convincing performance in the league, he could permanently replace Rui Patricio between the sticks.

De Rossi also praised Svilar during a post-match interview on Sunday.

“We have two exceptional goalkeepers and it is the only role where I want there to be some clarity,” said the ex-midfielder.

“Considering the way he performed this evening, Svilar deserves to be given a chance.”

  1. Ive been begging for Svilar to go keeper over Patricio, after seeing his Benfica highlights. This guy oozes A grade potential, whereas Patricio is B grade at best. We may have another Alison in the making… hopefully we wont sell this time if he turns out to be the best
