Alessio Romagnoli insists Milan ‘believe’ in their chances of Champions League qualification when hosting FC Porto and in any case this experience will help the squad to mature.
The Champions League clash kicks off at San Siro at 17.45 GMT.
“San Siro is one of the most beautiful stadiums in the world, so it needs games at this level and of this importance,” the captain told Amazon Prime Italia.
“We can only thank the fans, as they never hold back their passion and support. Now it’s up to us to deliver on the field.
“Milan are one of the youngest squads in Europe, so on the one hand we can enjoy the excitement and enthusiasm of that, but on the other we need to play many more of these games in order to mature.
“We ought to be in the Champions League every season.”
Where there is no shortage of experience is in attack, where Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are both veterans.
“In every strong squad, there needs to be a young element and an experienced one. They are two genuine champions and give everyone else a big hand.”
Milan will be unable to finish in the top two if they lose to Porto, or if they draw and Atletico Madrid beat Liverpool.
The Rossoneri will be confirmed in fourth place, and out of contention for a UEFA Europa League berth, if they lose and Atletico win.
“We have to look each other in the eyes, because we genuinely do believe in ourselves,” added Romagnoli.
“There are three games to go and we can still have our say.”
