‘Roma won’t play for 0-0 but…’

Luciano Spalletti promises Roma won’t play for a 0-0 against Porto but “we have to take it into account”.

Following the 1-1 draw in Portugal, a goalless game would see the Giallorossi advance to the group stages of the Champions League on the away goals rule.

“0-0 is a result that takes us through so we have to take it into account,” Spalletti conceded, speaking to Premium Sport after today’s Press conference.

“It’s certainly far from our minds right now though, we’ll try to get a result. It’s obvious that if you start with the obligation to score two goals, it’s normal you’d do something to force it.

“If you have a chance to win the game but no obligation, you can manage it in a more calm manner.

“The group stage? It’s clear that Roma want to do it, it’s the ambition of all of us. It’s the most prestigious stage in European football and we want to be on that stage.”

Spalletti was then asked what specific threats will be posed by the visitors tomorrow night.

“They’re good with trequartisiti and second strikers. They have a bit of ‘Brazilian’ game, whether on the ball or between the lines.

“They have great speed, technique and quality. We must be prepared to assess situations and show that we have quality too.”
