Roma won’t pay the fee to make Sergio Oliveira’s loan permanent but that does not mean the deal won’t happen, according to reports in Italy.

The Portuguese midfielder spent the second half of the last campaign at the Giallorossi.

He made 22 appearances, scoring three goals and recent reports suggested Roma had decided against taking up their option to sign him for €13.5 million – especially given the arrival of Nemanja Matic on a free transfer.

However, Calciomercato.com report that, while the Europa Conference League winners won’t pay the fee, they are ready to explore options to make the deal permanent.

The report suggests Roma director Tiago Pinto deemed the agreed fee too high but is willing to enter into negotiations with Porto in the hope of finding a compromise.

Roma are also in talks with Sassuolo about the potential return of Italy international Davide Frattesi, who was with Giallorossi as a youth player.
