Georginio Wijnaldum’s Roma career got off to a terrible start following a tibia fracture in training and he’s still set for a little while longer on the sidelines.

The 32-year-old Dutch midfielder joined the Giallorossi on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, adding an experienced winner to Jose Mourinho’s squad. The fans were excited to welcome Wijnaldum and he made his debut in the season opener against Salernitana, coming off the bench.

After that game, the former Liverpool man suffered a fractured tibia in training, forcing him to the sidelines for months.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Wijnaldum is still recovering from the fractured tibia and will not be fit enough to face Bologna in Roma’s first game of 2023 on January 4.

The 32-year-old is also set to miss the following January games against Milan, Fiorentina and Napoli, making a slow return to action after the serious injury.

Wijnaldum will likely be reintroduced into the Roma squad from February onwards, when he’ll slowly start building up his match fitness.
