Roma midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum won’t undergo surgery following a fibula injury and could return to action in January, reports in Italy claim.

La Gazzetta dello Sport and Calciomercato.com report the midfielder has decided against undergoing surgery after being diagnosed with a fractured fibula last week.

The decision was taken in the morning following consultation with Roma, PSG and The Netherlands doctors.

Wijnaldum will surely miss the World Cup and could return to action in January when the season resumes after Qatar 2022.

Wijnaldum has joined Roma on loan from PSG this summer. The Giallorossi have an option to make his move permanent at the end of the season.

Roma are on the lookout for a new central midfielder to replace the ex-Liverpool man.

Wijnaldum has only played 12 minutes in Serie A before his injury. He was introduced as a substitute in the opening league game of the season, an away 1-0 win at Salernitana.
