With concerns regarding form and uncertainty over the long-term future of Rui Patrcio, Roma are beginning to eye a list of potential goalkeeping replacements, reports in Italy claim.

Only Napoli, Juventus and Lazio have conceded fewer goals in the league than the Giallorossi this term, however Patricio’s inconsistent performances have come under particular scrutiny in recent weeks.

In Roma’s most recent 2-1 loss against Cremonese in Serie A, Patricio was at fault for giving away the costly 83rd-minute penalty, bringing down David Okereke on the edge of the six-yard box.

The Portuguese currently ranks bottom, by some distance, of all Serie A goalkeepers in terms of Post-shot xG, a metric used to determine a goalkeeper’s likelihood of saving a shot.

As reported in Corriere dello Sport, Patricio’s performances have left his employers at the Stadio Olimpico with a lot to be desired.

Portugal’s No.1 also turned 35 in February, so lining up a longer-term heir to his throne in Rome is considered to be entirely necessary.

According to reports, Empoli’s Guglielmo Vicario is among the list of suitors. The 26-year-old has received plaudits for his performances in Tuscany since his arrival from Cagliari in 2021.

Vicario also has interest from both Napoli and Bayern Munich.

Roma have not had an Italian as their first-choice goalkeeper since Morgan De Sanctis left the capital for Monaco at the end of 2015-16.

If they were to go down that route, then Wladimiro Falcone, Alessio Cragno and Emil Audero would be other valuable options for the Capitoline.

Apparently, a move for Emiliano Martinez could also be on the cards for Jose Mourinho and his team.

The World Cup winner turns 31 in September and Aston Villa would likely command an enormous fee for their star asset. However the Argentine’s performances since leaving Arsenal in 2020 have impressed on a global scale.

As well as winning the Golden Glove at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, Martinez was also chosen as the Best Goalkeeper At the FIFA Best awards in Paris on Monday.

For now, though, Patricio is likely to remain as first choice for the remainder of the season until Roma have an opportunity to reassess their options.
