Roma are reportedly confident they can get a deal done to purchase Houssem Aouar from Olympique Lyonnais for €17m.
The midfielder turns 24 next week and was one of the hottest properties on the transfer market just a couple of years ago, wanted by Juventus, Inter, Milan, Arsenal and various Premier League clubs.
Now he is into the final season of his contract with Lyon and the asking price is believed to be circa €25m.
However, Il Romanista and beIN Sports report Roma are confident they can clinch a deal for closer to €17m instead.
Tactically, the France international would be a natural heir to Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who left as a free agent to join Inter.
Aouar is available for cheap because of Lyon’s generally disappointing campaign, which saw him contribute eight goals and four assists in 44 competitive appearances.
He is a product of the Olympique Lyonnais youth academy and was promoted to the senior squad in 2016, but his career has rather stalled over the last 12 months.

He’s available for 17m? That’s a steal. I wish Milan was following this guy.
Yeah, I remember he was quite good that year we lost to Lyon in the CL.
Roma will upset Mourinho if they don’t sign any of his targets
