Reports in Italy claim Roma have set their sights on Brazilian striker Sávio and have been offered the chance to sign Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek, while Gini Wijnaldum praises José Mourinho: ‘I am a better footballer.’

Sky Sport Italia claims Van De Beek has been offered to the Giallorossi, but José Mourinho has other priorities at the moment, especially after signing Houssem Aouar as a free agent from Lyon.

Roma are still looking for a centre forward who can replace the injured Tammy Abraham in the first part of 2023-24.

West Ham’s Gianluca Scamacca remains high on their agenda and the same is true of Wilfried Zaha, but according to Gazzetta and Il Corriere dello Sport, promising Brazilian striker Savio is also an option for the Giallorossi. The 19-year-old can also play as an attacking winger and spent the last season on loan at PSV from Troyes.

The Ligue 1 side, owned by City Football Group, bought the Brazilian striker from Atletico Mineiro for €6.5m last year. Il Corriere dello Sport confirms Roma are keeping an eye on the 19-year-old, scorer of two goals in 17 appearances in 2022-23.

The Giallorossi are still finalising sales of Cristian Volpato and Filippo Missori to Sassuolo, Justin Kluivert to Bournemouth and Carles Perez to Celta Vigo.

According to Thursday’s printed edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (page 19), the Giallorossi won’t sell the Spanish winger on a permanent transfer for less than €6-7m.

Georginio Wijnaldum has returned to PSG after a one-year loan in the Capital, but another spell at the Stadio Olimpico seems unlikely.

“I have to meet PSG. There are many things that need to be clarified,” he told L’Equipe.

“We see in the media that there will be a new coach. I spoke with Al-Khelaïfi several times and I was in touch with club doctors when I was injured. Pasquale Sensibile came to see me twice. If PSG want, I can stay.”

The ex-Liverpool man had words of praise for Mourinho.

“People don’t know him, they say a lot about him, but he was great to me. I could always count on him when I needed. I’m a better footballer after he coached me.”
