The sporting director's future is a mystery, as he had already been touted for a move in the summer. Most recently he has been linked with Milan, a transfer being expected within the short term.

However, today's edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Sabatini is in fact most likely to renew his contract, as president James Pallotta has complete trust in his work.

Even should he end up not going for a formal renewal, the Rosea believes it is almost impossible that he'll leave anytime before the end of this season, and that he'll take care of the winter transfer window too.

Roma's mercato has been far from impressive this summer, although Sabatini has the excuse with his directors that injuries did not work in his favour. Apparently Twente's Hakim Ziyech had practically already been signed, but the injury of Mario Rui forced the Lupi to change strategies and drop the deal.

Another Roma figurehead whose contract expires in summer 2017 is Spalletti, who has to work with limited resources this year.

There are less doubts about his work than there are surrounding the sporting director, and he will apparently be offered a renewal in the near future.
