Roma are reportedly set to up interest in Johnny Heitinga, with sporting director Walter Sabatini due to open negotiations.

The Giallorossi have been linked with the Dutch international this January as a possible replacement for Nicolas Burdisso, who has indicated his desire to leave the capital.

Out of contract in the summer, Heitinga is believed available to leave current club Everton this month for as little as €1m.

Reports today are growing that Roma have made a decision to act on their initial interest and open talks with the centre-back, with sporting director Walter Sabatini believed to be returning to Rome to mediate.

Sabatini, who had been in Spain negotiating Antonio Sanabria’s capture from Barcelona B, is seen as set to meet with Heitinga’s entourage this Friday afternoon for initial negotiations.
