Roma are prepared to raise their offer for Matias Viña after Palmeiras turned down the latest bid for the left-back.

According to Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia, the €10m plus another €2.5m in performance-related bonuses are not enough to convince Palmeiras into a sale.

This is largely because they still owe Nacional de Montevideo 50 per cent of any future transfer fee thanks to the deal they did for the Uruguay international back in January 2020.

However, the sources are confident Roma will get the agreement they want over the next few days.

It’s reported the initial fee will be increased to reach the €13m that Palmeiras are requesting, plus bonuses.

There was a clue that Viña is on the way out, as he was left on the Palmeiras bench for this evening’s match against Atletico Goianiense.

The Giallorossi need a left-back after Leonardo Spinazzola tore his Achilles tendon during Italy’s triumphant march towards UEFA EURO 2020.

He will be out of action for anywhere between six and nine months, depending on how the recovery process develops.
