There are reports the situation at Roma is so bad that President James Pallotta could sack director of sport Gianluca Petrachi with termination for cause.

The rapport between them has become increasingly tense and multiple sources reported last night that it exploded with a blazing row over the telephone.

They have very different views on the strategy to go forward, especially after Pallotta turned down the takeover proposal presented by The Friedkin Group, leaving the club in serious financial trouble.

According to La Repubblica’s online edition this afternoon, the argument was so bad that Pallotta is considering a termination for cause – effectively sacking Petrachi in a way that would see him lose outstanding wages.

This could spark a legal battle with the former Torino director of sport, who was only poached from the Granata under a year ago.

Petrachi is under contract with Roma until June 2022 and earns €1m per year.
