Roma have been watching the World Cup closely and are reportedly in talks for Freiburg and Japan international winger Ritsu Doan.

The 24-year-old plays primarily on the right wing, but can also work on the left or even in a deeper central trequartista role.

He joined Freiburg over the summer from PSV Eindhoven at a cost of €8.5m and has been particularly impressive in Japan’s run to the Round of 16 in Qatar.

The supersub came off the bench twice to score important goals in the 2-1 victory over Germany and identical result against Spain.

According to Fussballtransfers.com and ASRomalive.it, Roma have set their sights on Doan and are already in negotiations with the player’s entourage and Freiburg representatives to see if the deal is possible.

His price-tag is believed to have increased to at least €12m and probably more on the back of those World Cup performances.

So far this season, Doan has scored four goals and provided four assists in 22 competitive games for the Bundesliga club.
