Roma are reportedly in direct talks with Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof as an alternative to Eric Bailly.

The Giallorossi are seeking a new centre-back to partner Chris Smalling or fill in for the England international, and have been looking to the Premier League.

While Bailly remains the first choice for Jose Mourinho, Lindelof has emerged as a potential alternative.

According to FootballNews24.it, Roma director Tiago Pinto is speaking directly to Lindelof’s agent to discuss the situation.

His versatility makes the Sweden international an interesting option, as he can play as a centre-back, a right-back or in defensive midfield.

His contract with Manchester United runs to June 2024 and he was signed from Benfica in 2017 for €35m.

The 28-year-old made 35 competitive appearances last season for the Reds, but has dropped down the pecking order under new manager Erik ten Hag and was not even in the squad for the opening Premier League defeat to Brighton.

The asking price is believed to be circa €18m, but Roma would go for a loan with option to buy.
