Roma prospect Nicola Zalewski was forced off the pitch in the pre-season friendly against Tottenham yesterday due to an ankle problem.

The 20-year-old Polish midfielder is one of Jose Mourinho’s favourites in the Giallorossi squad, considered a top prospect for the future. Last season, Zalewski made 24 appearances across all competitions for Roma, providing two assists in the Europa Conference League.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, Zalewski was taken off in Roma’s friendly against Tottenham yesterday due to an apparent sprained ankle. The medical staff are not too concerned and expect him to return to action at some point next week.

Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham were both keen to make am one for the 20-year-old earlier this summer but Mourinho refused to accept the Pole’s departure, underlining his belief in the player.

Zalewski is contracted to Roma until 2025 and is likely to be a regular feature in the upcoming season under the Portuguese coach.
