Roma wing-back Nicola Zalewski has seemingly denied he is involved in the illegal betting scandal and remains on international duty with the Poland Under-21 team.

Zalewski, who was born and raised in Rome to Polish parents and chose to represent their country of birth, was named by gossip columnist Fabrizio Corona today on the Dillinger News site as another Serie A player who placed illegal bets.

He joins former Roma teammate Nicolò Zaniolo, Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali and Juventus midfielder Nicolò Fagioli in facing these allegations.

However, while the others have left international duty after being informed they are under investigation, Zalewski denies placing bets.

“The Federation and Roma, who we are in contact with, have not received any documents regarding Nicola Zalewski,” PZPN spokesman Tomasz Kozlowski told TvpSport.

In his report, Corona did state that Zalewski was not formally under investigation, but alleged that he was among the dozen or more Serie A players who breached the rules on gambling.

Corona has pledged to name a different player every day as the investigation widens.
