The versatile Italy international was meant to join newly-promoted Premier League side Watford in a double deal with Zdravko Kuzmanovic.

He wrote on his Facebook profile that he “knows nothing about all this. I want to stay at Inter.”

However, it’s reported that the attempt to sell him just six months after his return from Newcastle United irritated Santon.

Roma aim to take advantage and have come forward with their own proposal for the 24-year-old, who can play on the right or left of defence or midfield.

Ironically, Santon would replace Jose Holebas, who is on the verge of a move to Watford.
