Nicolas Burdisso could be sidelined for the next six months after picking up an injury in Argentina’s 2-1 win in Colombia.

The Roma defender is thought to have damaged ligaments in his left knee during last night’s 2014 World Cup qualifier.

Burdisso picked up the problem in the 34th minute of the tie as he attempted to stop James Rodriguez.

Although the former Inter player will require further tests, scans are expected to confirm that he will require surgery.

The 30-year-old, who has scored one goal in 10 Serie A games this term, has been a key player in the plans of Roma boss Luis Enrique.

The Spaniard’s other centre-back options at the Stadio Olimpico are Gabriel Heinze, Juan and Simon Kjaer.
