Roma have reportedly agreed personal terms with Australia international goalkeeper Mathew Ryan, who is a free agent after leaving AZ Alkmaar.

According to Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the deal is done with the 32-year-old shot-stopper.

It is a surprise, as there had been little sign of interest in him before this sudden swoop.

Veteran Ryan will be brought in as an understudy to Mile Svilar, who was promoted to the main gloves when Daniele De Rossi took over from Jose Mourinho in January.

Ryan set for first Serie A experience

The Australia international is a free agent, as his contract with AZ Alkmaar was allowed to expire on June 30.

Previous clubs include Club Brugge, KRC Genk, Valencia, Arsenal, Brighton, Real Sociedad, FC Copenhagen and he joined AZ Alkmaar in January 2023.

He has 92 senior caps for Australia under his belt, making his international debut way back in December 2012.
