Roma’s final plans for the construction of a new stadium will be presented in April or May, the city’s mayor assures.

The plan for a new ground is at the final stage, with only the permission of the Regione Lazio needed before work can begin.

After reiterating that work should begin before the end of the year, Ignazio Marino said the final design will be submitted for approval before the end of May.

“Pallotta hasn’t told me the exact day,” Marino admitted to Tele Radio Stereo.

“There are 20 companies working on the final design of what will be the most technologically advanced stadium on the planet.

“Between the end of April and the end of May, the final design will be sumbitted, and that will then be examined by the Regione Lazio to make sure everything is in order to lay the first stone.

“How long will that take? In theory it could be 180 days, but I’m sure President [of the region, Nicola] Zingaretti will share my desire for urgency.

“There’s 40 per cent youth unemployment in Rome, and the stadium will create 3,000 jobs just to build it.”
