Roma have registered Tommaso Baldanzi’s contract while the 20-year-old bids farewell to Empoli: ‘It was a fantastic journey.’

Roma have confirmed Baldanzi’s permanent transfer from Empoli by registering his contract within Lega Calcio, so they are expected to release an official statement shortly.

Baldanzi underwent medical with the Giallorossi on Thursday morning and has joined Roma for €10m plus €5m add-ons.

The U21 Italy international sent a message to Empoli and their fans through his Instagram account on Thursday, after signing his contract with Daniele De Rossi’s side.

“It’s not easy to sum up 13 years of childhood,” wrote the new Giallorossi signing.

“First of all, I want to thank the family Corsi, the fans and all the coaches I worked with, all the lads with whom I shared the dressing room, ending with warehouse workers, the drivers and all those staff members who never made me lack anything over these years.

“You’ve all been special and not only taught me to play football but also how to live in the world. I will be forever grateful to you for this. You saw me grow, and with you, I achieved many dreams that any child who starts playing football has. We have shared unforgettable moments and you were my second home and my second family. It was a fantastic journey.

“I will forever cheer for you.”

Empoli President Fabrizio Corsi has admitted Empoli could not block the exit of the attacking midfielder this month but said it ‘hurt’ to see a product of club academy leave.

Baldanzi has scored two goals in 14 Serie A games this season, the last one in an away 1-1 draw at Juventus this past weekend.

The 20-year-old has one goal in three appearances with Itlay U21 and has netted six times in 44 Serie A matches.
