Roma are close to an agreement with Sporting CP, sending over Seydou Doumbia on loan with option to buy for €6m that could become mandatory.

The Ivory Coast international striker proved to be a huge flop after he was signed from CSKA Moscow in January 2015 for €14.4m.

Within six months he’d been loaned back to CSKA, then had spells at Newcastle United and FC Basel, but none of these clubs were willing to make the move permanent.
