Roma need sales to raise funds and Benjamin Tahirovic is chosen as a transfer market sacrifice, with Ajax leading the race ahead of Marseille, Genoa, Sassuolo and Salernitana.

The club needs to bring in €30m by player sales by the deadline of June 30 to help balance the books and director of sport Tiago Pinto and coach Jose Mourinho have chosen to let youth product Tahirovic go.

The midfielder just turned 20 in March and already has three senior caps under his belt for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He joined the Giallorossi youth academy in 2021 and made 11 Serie A appearances for the senior squad this season, plus two in the Coppa Italia.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Ajax are the absolute favourites to snap up Tahirovic and are expected to do a deal within the next couple of days.

They faced competition from Olympique Marseille along with Serie A sides Sassuolo, Genoa and Salernitana.
