Roma consultant Franco Baldini has reportedly drawn up a list of Paulo Fonseca’s possible successors, including former coach Luciano Spalletti.

Il Corriere dello Sport claims Baldini was spotted at Spalletti’s villa between Certaldo and Montespertoli, triggering speculation regarding a return to the Giallorossi.

President James Pallotta has reassured Fonseca about his position, claiming the Portuguese’s job is not at risk, but the Roman newspaper still claims Baldini has set up a list of contenders for the position.

Spalletti was the last coach to lift a trophy with Roma but the negotiations with the former Zenit St Petersburg and Inter tactician could be complicated.

He was previously linked with the job at Milan, but a move fell through because the Tuscan coach is still under a lucrative €5.2m contract with Inter – a deal he, according to the report, has no intentions of giving up.

Argentine coach Mauricio Pochettino is another name mentioned by the report.

The former Tottenham coach has been available since he was sacked in November, only a few months after having led the Lilywhites to their first Champions League Final.

After three consecutive defeats in Serie A, the pressure mounts for Paulo Fonseca to turn things around quickly – starting with a match against Parma on Wednesday.
