Roma reignite interest in Santos talent Marcos Leonardo

Roma are in the market for a new centre forward and have reignited their interest in Santos striker Marcos Leonardo, Gianluca Di Marzio reports.

The Giallorossi lost Tammy Abraham to a serious cruciate ligament, an injury that’ll keep the Englishman sidelined until January or February at the earliest. This leaves Jose Mourinho in a tough spot, only having Andrea Belotti to start up front.

Roma had been following both Gianluca Scamacca and Alvaro Morata, but both players are likely to be too expensive for the club, forcing them to consider other options.

As reported by Di Marzio, Roma have identified four players who could be a good fit for Mourinho’s squad and the top name on the list is Marcos Leonardo, a player the club already set their sights on back in May before moving away.

Lazio were also interested in the 20-year-old forward and offered €12m to Santos before ultimately deciding to pick up Valentin Castellanos from New York City FC.
