Roma defender Evan Ndicka did not have a heart attack, confirm tests at the hospital in Udine, as Daniele De Rossi and teammates were reassured following a visit.
The Ivory Coast international went to ground at the 72nd minute during today’s Serie A match at the Bluenergy Stadium, clutching his chest and complaining of pain.
A defibrillator was brought on, but not used, and he was alert and conscious throughout when stretchered off.
Ndicka was rushed to hospital when an ECG test performed at the stadium gave “worrying” results, which prompted both teams to abandon the match.
The latest reports this evening from Sky Sport Italia confirm that coach Daniele De Rossi, CEO Lina Soulokou and captain Lorenzo Pellegrini were allowed to see Ndicka in his hospital room.
They were reassured, especially by the statement from doctors that tests ruled out a potential heart attack.
It is believed Ndicka suffered a knock to the chest earlier in the match and the bruise prompted breathing difficulties.
He will remain in hospital at least overnight for observation and more tests, but the Roma squad has begun the journey back to the Capital with a flight from Trieste.
When leaving the hospital, De Rossi smiled at journalists gathered outside and assured them: “It’s all fine, all fine.”
