There are only two elements keeping Di Francesco in his position right now and one of them is director of sport Monchi, who vowed to walk away if the Coach was sacked.

The other problem facing Pallotta is the lack of suitable alternatives.

His options are Paulo Sousa and Vincenzo Montella, who have both come off a string of short-lived experiences at Fiorentina and Tianjin Quanjian for Sousa, Milan and Sevilla for Montella.

Antonio Conte is the dream, but he is embroiled in a bitter legal battle with Chelsea and his salary would be a huge burden on the Roma coffers anyway.
