Roma have reportedly agreed a deal with West Ham to bring Gianluca Scamacca to the Stadio Olimpico for the 2023-24 season on an initial loan with a buy option, which could become mandatory if certain conditions are met.
It is no secret that the Giallorossi have been in the market for a new striker following the long-term injury to Tammy Abraham at the end of the 2022-23 campaign.
Scamacca, who joined West Ham from Sassuolo for around €36m just over a year ago, has been linked with a move back to Italy for several months already. Now, Rome appears to be his next destination.
According to reports from Calciomercato.com, the West Ham are prepared to let Scamacca leave on loan with a fee of around €4m-€5m, with an option to buy for €22m.
That option will become an obligation if Scamacca registers a certain number of appearances in the 2023-24 season and if Roma secure Champions League qualification as per Saturday’s report.
Scamacca has been omitted from West Ham’s squad for their most recent pre-season friendlies and has already removed the words ‘West Ham player’ from his Instagram bio.
Tiago Pinto will reportedly fly to London to complete the deal next week.
