Roma’s friendly against Sevilla today was also an opportunity to discuss a transfer strategy for Gonzalo Villar.

The game ended 0-0 in Faro, as part of the Giallorossi’s Portuguese pre-season tour, despite the Spaniards going down to 10 men.

According to Calciomercato.com, this was also the chance for Roma to propose Sevilla go for Villar.

The 23-year-old midfielder was brought to the Eternal City in January 2020 from Elche for €4m plus bonuses.

He made 47 competitive appearances for the Giallorossi last season, contributing one assist.

It’s reported he is not part of Jose Mourinho’s plans and can be sacrificed on the transfer market to raise funds for other targets.

Villar recently changed his agent, which was also seen as a sign that a move would be imminent.

Either Ebrima Darboe or Edoardo Bove will then be sent out on loan this summer.

Considering some of the errors he has made during the pre-season friendlies, and the response from Mourinho, Darboe might benefit from some regular Serie A playing time elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Bove has already been linked with a spell at Genoa as part of the Eldor Shomurodov deal.
