Roma president Dan Friedkin is flying to Brussels to try and finalise the deal for Chelsea outcast Romelu Lukaku.

The Giallorossi are now leading the race to sign the 30-year-old Belgian striker this summer, overtaking Juventus after their lack of progress in negotiations.

Roma directors Ryan Friedkin and Tiago Pinto arrived in London earlier this week to negotiate a deal with Chelsea and things are moving forward positively, with the two clubs planning to set up a loan deal with no permanence clause attached.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, the elder Friedkin left on his private jet last night for Brussels, wanting to personally meet with Lukaku and his entourage to get the deal across the line.

The Giallorossi directors are still in London trying to finalise an agreement with Chelsea, who tried to include an obligation to buy clause during conversations late yesterday.

Lukaku is willing to drop his salary to the €8m offered by Roma and talks are now ongoing with Chelsea to establish the loan fee, which is expected to be just over €5m.

The Belgian striker told Het Laatste Nieuws yesterday that he would sign for the Giallorossi today, but it may take a little more time to fully complete the deal.
